Gravity-separation apparatus.-A chamber a for separating benzole from waste water has an overflow outlet c in the form of an inverted siphon opening at a low leved in the chamber, and a closure member g connected to a float located in the upper layers of liquid in the chamber, so that the float drops and the outlet is closed when a predetermined amount of the lighter liquid has collected. The float may be connected with the member g by a rod as shown, or the closure member may be directly connected with the float which is of sufficient length to extend into the upper layers of liquid.
