341,607. Distributers for sand &c. CALVERT, E. W., Shipley Fire Station, Windsor Road, COWGILL, E. 15, Birklands Road, and DEWAR, J., 48, Field Street, all in Shipley, Yorkshire. Nov. 9, 1929, No. 34232. [Class 6 (i).] A spreader unit for attachment to a vehicle in front of the rear wheels for distributing sand, gravel, or ashes on roadways and causeways consists of a hopper and a forwardly inclined and positively driven rotary-disc spreader having an adjustable guard or director plate. The apparatus is attached in such a manner that tipping of the vehicle will not interfere with it, and it may remain in position when the vehicle is used for other purposes, or may be detached and replaced. The material passes from a lorry body through a hopper or shoot H<I> attached to the body and provided with a closing slide H<2>, or a plug. The receiving hopper H is provided with a rotary agitator D, a spring-controlled trap door T, and an adjustable shoot C. The inclined distributing disc M is provided with ribs M<1> and is driven from a shaft O fitted with a clutch and driven by a belt W<2> from a rear wheel W of the lorry. A curved guard or plate G extends around part of the disc M and is adjustable by means of a slotted bar or handle G<1>. The apparatus is attached to a frame S<1> on the chassis frame S of the lorry by removable bolts B<x>. A guard Ox protects the clutch from sand &c.
