Abstract
561,075. Road rollers. HOME COUNTIES TARMACADAM CONTRACTING CO., Ltd., and, HACK. G. E. Jan. 2, 1943, No. 16297/41. [Class 6 (i)] [Also in Group X] Means for spreading road-surfacing &c. materials comprises a hopper 1 with a lower extension 2 about which is a sleeve 3 adjusted by screws 4 and hand wheels 5 to vary the thickness of the laid material ; the sleeve may also be raised by a lever 6. The hopper is carried by a frame 7 adapted to be attached to a towing vehicle, and provided with a rear roller 8 and, if desired, a front roller 9 ; the rear roller may be replaced by two rollers 8, 8a, Fig. 5, mounted in frames 10 pivoted at 11 and provided with adjusting means 12. The hopper may be heated by a steam or hot air jacket extending over the whole or part of the sides ; alternatively or in addition, a furnace may be provided connected with flues extending across the hopper, or a steam coil may be provided within the hopper. The rear wall of the hopper may be curved upwardly and forwardly to prevent the material piling towards the rear.
