Abstract

639,988. Roller skates. STEIGER, P. Oct. 25. 1946, No. 31744. Convention date, May 9, 1946. [Class 132 (i)] A skate has its rollers supported from the soleplate by means of brackets, the securing means for the rollers and those portions of the brackets connected to the securing means being situated inside bearing bushes or hubs which are in turn disposed within the rollers. In Fig. 4, roller 5 is a rubber spheroid supported from the soleplate by brackets 7 and axle 15, the nuts at each end of axle 15 securing the brackets to the axle being wholly within bearing bush 14. Fig. 1 shows a skate having two such rollers 4 and 5, the brackets 6 of roller 4 being connected directly to the soleplate 1, while brackets 7 of roller 5 are connected to a plate 9 rotatable about pin 8 on the soleplate. As shown in Fig. 3, plate 9 is provided at its forward part with an eye 18 to which are fixed, by means of nut and bolt 19, two steel strips 20 and 21. These strips are bored at their front ends and connected together by distance screw 22. They also embrace longitudinally adjustable pin 24. Fig. 5 shows the front roller with its supporting brackets connected to a plate 30 rotatable about pin 29 and functioning in a similar manner to plate 9. Thus the rear roller or both front and rear roller may be capable of lateral displacement on negotiating a curve.
