Abstract
616,859. Cycles for walkers and runners. CAIRNS, A. Sept. 14, 1946, No. 27631. [Class 136 (iii)] [Also in Group XV] Apparatus for use in physical training or sport consists of a road wheel having an extended axle carrying a handle on each side of the wheel so that a user of the apparatus, bending forwards to grasp a handle in each hand, may walk or run with rigid arms so as to propel the wheel forwards along the ground, the wheel acting as a rolling support. Suitable wheels may be from six inches to eighteen inches in diameter and wheel guards may be fitted to the apparatus. In Figs. 3 and 4, a disc-type road wheel w, provided with rubber tyres r, has an axle a. Handles s may be fixed rigidly on the axle a as in Fig. 3 or the handles may be carried loosely on the axle ends as in Fig. 4, in the latter case the axle being integral with the wheel hub.
