Abstract
686,698. Toys. GROVES, H. H. May 11, 1951. [May 26, 1950] No. 13326/50. Class 132 (iii). A toy comprises a walking figure which has legs pivoted on a horizontal axis to swing forwardly and rearwardly through a slight angle, the lower surfaces of its feet being so shaped that it progresses by swaying forwards and backwards and from side to side, and is connected to a wheeled structure having motor means adapted to drive at least one wheel thereof so that the wheeled structure pulls or p ushes the figure along. Figs. 1 and 3 show a walking figure and wheeled structure substantially as shown in Specification 609,641 provided with a toothed wheel 7 on the axle 8 of a rubber tyred or non-slip plastic wheel 9 of wheelbarrow 10, the wheel 7 meshing with a crown wheel 12 having a spindle 13 carried in a bearing 14. The spindle 13 forms a hook 15 on which a rubber ring 16 is looped the other end of which passes round a projection 17. The ring 16 is "wound up" by rolling wheel 9 rearwardly. Swaying movement of figure 18 is limited by projection 19. The legs may pivot on the same horizontal axis as the arms. The toy may comprise a horse and cart, Fig. 4, in which the cart wheels 25, Fig. 6, are driven by rubber rings 32, 33. A clockwork or electric motor or a flywheel may be used.
