B62b 3/00 US. Cl. 28087.04 R 3 Claims ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE This invention relates to a scooter-type vehicle having a half-barrel structure with creeper wheels attached to the bottom thereof. An optional handle is provided in order that the device can be a pull-type vehicle.
This invention relates to a scooter-type vehicle or amusement device which has novel features and improvements which provide for a multiplicity of different activities.
An object of the invention is to provide a device whereby the user can propel himself in any direction, including a circular direction.
Another object of the invention is to provide a scooter device of novel construction which is simple to operate, durable in use, and can be inexpensively manufactured.
A further object of the invention is to provide a scootertype device having a half-barrel structure with creeper wheels thereon.
Yet another object of the invention is to provide a novel structure which has inherent safety features.
With these and other objects in view, the invention consists of novel details of construction, arrangement and combination of parts more fully hereinafter described, and illustrated in the accompanying drawings in which:
FIG. 1 is a view of one embodiment of the invention.
FIG. 2 is a top view of the invention illustrated in FIG. 1.
FIG. 3 is a cross-sectional view of the invention illustrated in FIG. 1, along the line 33.
FIG. 4 is a bottom view of the invention illustrated in FIG. 1.
FIG. 5 is a view of the handle member.
Referring more in detail to the drawings, the barreltype structure consists of a half barrel structure which has the complete barrel bottom 11 attached thereto and having creeper wheels 12 attached to the bottom thereof. The barrel 111 represents a barrel which has been out exactly in half'vertically but which has complete bottom 11 left attached thereto. The barrel of the instant invention is of the tongue-in-groove variety although other type barrels may be used. Metal half-hoops 13 have been attached to the barrel staves 14 for additional support thereto. The half-hoops 13 are attached to the barrel staves 14 with pop rivets 15 which preferably have a oneeighth inch diameter and a one-quarter inch length. Other type rivets or support means may be used on the halfbarrel structure in addition to those disclosed.
Protective rubber channeling 16 has been placed along the top edge of the half-barrel structure 10 and also along the vertical edges of the half-barrel. The channeling 16 can be held in place with pop rivets and/or with a cement. An all purpose hose of approximately three quarter inch diameter may be used as the protective device. At the edges of the top portion of the barrel structure 10 are a pair of grips 17 which are of the type which provide hand holds for the barrel structure. Rubber or plastic grips 17 are useful for this purpose.
Attached to the bottom edge of the barrel structure 10 is a metal reinforcing rim 18 which is attached both to the barrel staves 14 and to the bottom 11 of the barrel. The rim 18 extends approximately one-quarter of an inch below the bottom 11 of the barrel. Rivets extend through the rim 18 into the staves 14 and into the barrel-bottom 11.
Extending from the forward half of the structure are three wedge shaped support members 19 which provide dual features to the invention. The three wedge shaped support members 19 provide means to keep the front of the barrel structure It! raised, which prevents the structu're from turning over' a forward motion, thereby giving the structure an added safety feature. Attached to the bottom 11 and to members 19 are creeper wheels 12. Each creeper wheel 12 is attached through the use of four bolts 20, said bolts extendirig into either the wedge members 19 or through the barrel bottom 11. The creeper wheels 12 are preferably of the nylon type which provide for a quieter and smoother "operation. Preferably two wheels are attached to the bottom 11 and three wheels are attached to the wedge members 19.
Placed upon the top of the bolts 20, which extend through the bottom 21; and fitting exactly within the rim 18 is a plywood inside bottom 11 which is used as the seat or foot engaging members for the instant invention. Said inside bottom 11 maybe either painted or covered with linolium in order to provide an attractive support member.
Spacer members 22 are placed between the creeper wheel support members and the bottom of the barrel 21 for the purpose of preventing the creeper wheels 12 from rubbing against the barrel bottom 21 or from striking the reinforcing rim 18 which extends below the barrel bottom.
Attached to the lower front of the barrel structure 10 is an attachment means 23, preferably a U-shaped bolt, which provides a securing receptacle for the attachment of a handle 24 to the barrel structure 10. An eye-bolt could also be used in lieu of the U-bolt. The handle 24 is provided with a handle grip 25 attached to the end thereof. At the opposite end of the handle 24 is a snap hook 26, said snap hook providing the necessary means to hold the handle and the half-barrel structure in a connected relationship.
The handle member 24 provides means for pulling the device of the instant invention or for swinging the halfbarrel structure in a circular motion. When the handle is detached, the structure of this invention is propelled by the rider thereof.
Having thus described the invention, what is claimed as new and desired to be secured by Letters Patent is:
1. A scooter-type toy comprising a vertically cut halfbaifrel structure of a half-cylindrical shape having a completely round bottom attached thereto, and having creeper wheels attached to the underside of said structure, at least two creeper wheels being attached to the bottom of the barrel structure and three other wheels attached to wedge type support structures attached to the barrel structure,
and having support half-hoops attached to the half-barrel References Cited e, i
