Abstract

<PICT:0340326/IV/1> For carrying out the processes of the parent Specification and of Specifications 340,325, 340,436 and 340,437, (1) the filaments, films &c. leaving the coagulation baths, subsequent treatment baths, or washing baths, if the latter are employed, are dried by passage through drying cells or chambers, or (2) the coagulation baths or subsequent treatment baths are maintained at temperatures higher than atmospheric temperatures. The drying cells or chambers may or may not be closed at one or both ends, and the coagulation, treatment &c. baths may be enclosed therein; the air or other drying medium may be passed though the cells &c. in counter current to the filaments, and its rate of flow may be controlled, for example, according to the method of Specification 203,092, [Class 2 (ii), Cellulose &c.]; and the cells may be provided with heating means, or the air &c. may be heated before entry. After passage through the cells, the threads may be wound up on cap or ring spinning machines. As shown, the filaments 2 are extruded, preferably from one or more horizontal rows of nozzles 15, into a coagulation bath consisting of an aqueous or alcoholic solution of diacetone alcohol at 25-30 DEG C., are washed by passage under a roller 4 immersed in water or methyl or ethyl alcohol at 25-30 DEG C., and after being carried round a feed roller 6, are passed into and through a drying cell 8; on leaving the cell, the filaments are carried round a feed roller 10, if desired after passage over a lubricating device 11, and are finally wound on a cap spinning device 12.
