Abstract
331,351. Jackson, W. E. June 4, 1929. Collision-guards.-In a motor-car bumper, a tension spring 13 is connected to and operates between each pair of pistons 12 contained in a tube 5 while compression springs 14 act on the opposite sides of the pistons between a central limit block 10 and caps 8 which close the ends of the tube. Lips or flanges 7 are formed integral with slots 6 on one side of the tube and act as guides for rearwardly extending arms 16 each hinged to a piston 12 at one end, the other ends being joined and pivoted at their junction to brackets 18 fixed to the car, one of each pair of arms being formed with a limit stop 19. Strengthening bands and curved ends may be fitted on the tube. In a modification a bowshaped auxiliary bumper bar is secured to the tube by clip brackets.
