Clamps.-A clamp comprises four pivoted jaw members 1 mounted on a plate 5, a cam plate 8 engaging the tails of the jaw members and actuated by a screw 7 for making the jaws converge and a second cam plate 9 rotatable on the plate 8 into and out of operative position to come into action on the jaw members. With the cam plate 9 in the position shown in Fig. 4 the members 1 are engaged by the edges 12 of the plate 8; actuation of the screw 7 moves plate 8 rearwards causing the jaws 13 on the arms to grip work pieces 17 and press them against work piece 18. If smaller work is to be gripped coarse adjustment of the jaws is made by first closing the jaw members 1 to open out the tails of the jaw members and the cam plate 9 is moved by handle 10 into position shown in Fig. 5 enabling edges 11 to come into action on the jaw members. The latter are of U-section with flanges 15 to slide on the cam edges and are pivoted in forks on a pair of rockers 3 supported on spindles 4 mounted on the plate 5, springs 4<a> holding the rear ends of the jaw members up against the edges of the cam plates. The two positions of the adjustable cam plate 9 are determined by a stop pin 14.
