Abstract

782,623. Clamps. VIOT, L. Dec. 21, 1955 [Jan. 11, 1955], No. 36625/55. Class 61. An expanding and contracting grip clamp comprises a guide rod 1 having mounted thereon a sliding jaw 10 which co-operates with a pivoting jaw 4 operated by a cam lever 8 and provided with two pressing heads 5, 6 facing in opposite directions to each other and disposed on opposite sides of its pivotal axis. A pair of brackets 2 are mounted side by side at the upper end of the guide rod, the jaw 4 being pivoted between the brackets at 3 and the cam lever pivoted thereto at 7. In operation the end 9 of the lever engages the end of the jaw lever 4 causing it to pivot about the axis 3. For expanding grip of the jaws, the sliding jaw 10 is inverted on the guide rod. In a modification the cheeks 5, 6 and 11 of the jaws are provided with articulations. In another modification means for mounting the device on a bench are fixed to the sliding jaw.
