Abstract

840,560. Work-holders. RUDDICK, H. G. Sept. 1, 1958 [Sept. 2, 1957], No. 27551/57. Class 83 (3). [Also in Group XXIII] A toggle-clamp, work-holder, &c. comprises an arm 6 pivoted intermediate its ends to a centre-post I secured to a base 2, a lever 12 pivoted at 10 to one end of the arm, and a slide 11 secured to the lever, carrying a roller 14 and having a heel 15 arranged to come into contact with the base and arrest further movement of the lever 12 about its pivot just after the point of contact of the slide with the base passes under the pivot 10. The arm 6 is pivoted on a trunnion-block 4 pressed upwardly, by a spring 5, against a knurled nut 3 on the post 1, to vary the effective height of the post. The arm 6 carries a rotatable and longitudinally-adjustable jaw-pad 7. The base 2 may comprise the table of a machine-tool. In a modification, Fig. 4 (not shown), the base comprises the lower jaw of a hand clamp having a handle welded to it, these parts having a stationary post screwed into them. The handle is adapted to be grasped to the handle of the lever 6. A stop-block carrying an auxiliary handle is pivoted on the slide and is adapted to be grasped to the handle of the lever 6 to thereby release the clamp.
