Abstract

1,196,251. Work supports. T. E. BOLTON. 28 Feb., 1968 [4 March, 1967], No. 10326/67. Heading B3B. A universally adjustable stand comprises a base 1 having an upstanding arm 3 for clamping an L-shaped mounting post 8, 9 to which is clamped a vice 12, 13. The base 1 has holes 2 for bolting or screwing it to a table of a machine tool or bench. Alternatively the base may be provided with a plate which is either a permanent magnet itself or is held by a magnetic table. This plate is set in the base and the base is rotatably adjustable around the plate by means of graduations on the plate being visible through a hole in the base. In a further embodiment the base includes a deformable pad operated by a screw threaded pin to draw a suction to hold the base on to a table. The underneath of the base surrounding the plate or pad is covered with a rubber, felt or other deformable material. The vice comprises a fixed jaw 12, a movable jaw 13, a biasing spring 15 and a knurled nut 16. The vice is rotatable by means of a ratchet and pawl 18, 19, and the vice jaws include V- shaped grooves 24, 20, 21 and semicircular grooves 23 for gripping bars. The grooves 20, 21 are not oppositely aligned and each one cooperates with a flat surface in the opposing jaw.
