Abstract

375,748. Vices. LEONARD, N., Feignies, Nord, France. April 20, 1932, No. 11360. Convention date, April 25, 1931. [Class 61 (ii).] A bench vice suitable for holding large metal plates has one fixed and one movable pivoted jaw. the latter being clamped and adjusted by screws, mounted in the ends of a rocking lever, which do not pass through the jaw. The rocking lever 6 which shares, with the movable jaw 2, a common pivot 3 has a pair of adjustable screws 8, 11 threaded through its ends. These screws bear respectively, against a fixed abutment 23, and the upper surface of the movable jaw; the screw 8 serves to effect an initial adjustment of jaw opening while the screw 11 gives the final clamping ; this arrangement allows a series of similar articles to be successively gripped in the vice by a small movement of the screw 11. The abutment 23 is in the form of a stirrup, riveted to an extension of the fixed jaw, which guides the foot of the movable jaw and also a spring 13 for opening it.
