Abstract

329,228. Doughty, H. W. Dec. 6, 1928. [Convention date]. Sprinklers, automatic-In a sprinkler head comprising a base secured to a nozzle with a bore in the base leading to the nozzle outlet, the latter is closed by a frangible diaphragm which is further held in place by a fusible plug 9 screwed or otherwise held in the outlet and resting directly thereon. The diaphragm may comprise a disc of metal foil 14 held between washers 10, 11 clamped between the nozzle 8 and the base 5. The washers 10, 11 may be coated before assembly with a luting material, such as glycerine mixed with litharge, or nitrocellulose paste. The plug 9 is of wax, stearine, or other organic compound of low melting point.
