Abstract

200,971. Whelan, J., and Asling, D. I. May 15, 1922. Fusible sprinkler heads, of the type adapted to be operated either by the heat of a fire or by the heat of an electric resistance connected to a distant switch, comprise a cap 4 pivoted to a lever 18 and attached by a fusible seat 5 of solder &c. to a dome-shaped head 2, the electric heater 7 being connected to leads 10 and wound around a grooved insulating-ring on a member 6, which is surrounded by a heat-retaining insulating-cup 9. A plug 12 of porcelain &c. is normally retained by a spring 14 and a wax filling 13. When the fusible seal 5 melts, the lever 18 turns about its pivot 18a on a flange 3 under the action of a spring 21 and removes the cap 4 from the head 2, the pressure of the water expelling the wax 13 and plug 12. A spreader 17 is carried by a bracket 16 depending from the flange 3.
