Winding - machines. - A pulley, drum, or roller, such as is used for driving textile bobbins, spools, cheeses &c., by surface contact comprises a tube a fitting closely upon a pair of members c part conical and part cylindrical as shown and fitting upon the shaft, to which they may be secured by a screw-carrying collar e, which may surround one or both of the members c or may fit upon the shaft and be recessed to receive the ends of the members c. The parts a, c may be welded or otherwise secured together. The tube a is pressed, stamped or cut from a length of tubing, or rolled from a sheet and connected at its edges. The tube a and one of the parts c may be integral. Slots g, which may be undercut, are formed in the longer ends of one or both of the parts c to receive lead &c. for balancing the roller.
