Abstract

323,988. Monnier, A. April 13, 1929. Lubricating.-A clay stream for the manufacture of tiles is lubricated, prior to cutting and stamping, by passing through a double-walled casing in the interior of which the lubricant is injected and atomized by air jets. As shown, the clay stream 1 from a press 2 passes through a casing having perforated outer and inner walls 7 - - 10 forming an inner chamber into which lubricant is injected by opposite pairs of jets disposed above and below the stream between upper and lower pairs of distributing rollers 20, 19. Baffles 15 prevent the spray escaping along the stream of clay. The casing is packed with finely divided material 23, e.g. steel turnings, to condense excess lubricant which collects in a funnel 6.
