Abstract

320,112. Stevens, T. A., and Geandess, Ltd. July 6, 1928. Bayonet-joint and spring stoppers having an enclosed sealing-washer which is spring-pressed on to its seating. A cap 6 has internal projections 8 which engages under wedge-shaped shoulders 3 in the neck 1 of a container. Stops 4 on either side of the entry slot in the projections 8 prevent unintentional release of the cap. Within the cap a cup-shaped member 9 carries the sealing ring 10 and is pressed by a spring 12 on to the neck 1. The member 9 is inwardy domed and covered by a plate 14, which clamps the ring 10 in position and is secured by a rivet 17. Vent-holes 13, 15 are formed in the plates 9, 14. Petrol &c. passing through the vent -hole 15 is collected in the chamber 16 and returns to the tank either through the said hole or over the rim of the plate 14. The washer 10 is pressed on its seating by the engagement of the lugs 8 with the shoulders 3, but should the cap slack back this pressure is supplied by the spring 12. To disengage the cap the projections 8 must be pressed below the stops 4. Stops 5 register the path of release of the lug 8. Specification 322,291 is referred to in connection with the anti-splash plate 14.
