Abstract

983,054. Container closures. FORD MOTOR CO. Ltd. Feb. 1, 1964, No. 4361/64. Heading B8T. When lower than atmospheric pressure exists inside a fuel tank to which a closure cap is detachably secured, a valve member 11 flexes inwardly away from apertures 10 in a plate 9 so allowing air, which has entered the cap by means of a gap between a cover 1 and a seal 5, apertures 13 in an insert 2 and through a drilling 14 in a rivet which secures a cup member 3 to the insert, to pass into the tank through the said apertures 10. A pair of outwardly projecting tabs on the rim of the cup member engage on the tank filler neck, and the seal engages the upper end of the neck against the action of a spring disc 6. The valve 11 of rubber or other flexible material may have a thickened central portion which is located in a central aperture in the plate. In a modification, a disc 23 is secured to the underside of the plate and an annular valve member 24 is located therebetween.
