Abstract

431,604. Closures for tanks. PRESSED STEEL CO. OF GREAT BRITAIN, Ltd., Cowley, and SPEED, E., 79, Fernhill Road, Cowley, Oxford. May 11, 1934, No. 14251. [Class 125 (iii)] [See also Group XXXI] The fuel tank feed pipe in a motor vehicle terminates just within the body surface and is closed by a cap or stopper forming part of or attached to a hinged or detachable coverplate constituting part of the body surface and conforming to the contour thereof. The feed pipe 11, with a rubber edged orifice 13, is adapted to be closed by a conical or hemispherical stopper 18 which is self centring in virtue of its attachment by a spring 17 to the hinged coverplate 15. In a modification, the inner portion of the coverplate is flat and bears against the orifice, the feed pipe in this case being located by attachment of an annular flange thereon to the margin of the opening in the body part. The coverplate may be retained in position by spring fingers &c., and, when not hinged, may be attached by a chain to prevent loss.
