Abstract

1368412 Filling containers W H T TAYLEUR 27 April 1973 20049/73 Heading B8T [Also in Division F2] A valve for use in bottling liquids comprises a feed tube 1 open at one end for connection to a liquid container (not shown) and closed by a plug at its other end, there being apertures 3 adjacent the closed end. A sleeve 6 which has a radially projecting flange 9 surrounds the tube 1 and is slidable relative to the tube. The lower end of the tube is provided with a frusto-conical portion 1a which engages a similar frustoconical portion of the sleeve and provides a liquid seal between the tube and the sleeve. Movement of the sleeve in the opening direction is limited by the engagement of the flange 9 with a rubber collar 4 locked by a washer 5. A spring 11 ensures that the sleeve 6 covers the apertures 3 when the valve is not in use. Apertures 10 in the flange 9 permit air to escape from the bottle 8 as the filling liquid enters: alternatively, one or more radial recesses may be provided in the underface 9a of the flange.
