Abstract

Thermionic amplifiers and detectors. - In a wireless receiver a leaky-grid rectifying valve V1, having a high amplification factor and a correspondingly high impedance of the type usually associated with resistance-capacity coupling, is coupled by a transformer 25 of high ratio to a low-frequency amplifying-valve V2 having a rather lower impedance and amplification factor of the type commonly used in high-frequency amplification. The rectifying-valve has an amplification factor of 10 and an impedance of 86,000 ohms, the low-frequency amplifying-valve an amplification factor of 20 and an impedance of 28,000 ohms, and the transformer a ratio of 8 to 1. A reaction coil 23 in the anode circuit of the rectifying- valve is variably coupled to a coil 13 in the grid circuit and is shunted by a variable condenser 24 of 0.0005 uF maximum capacity.
