Abstract
234,809. British Thomson - Houston Co., Ltd., (Assignees of Clothier, S. L.). May 29, 1924, [Convention date]. Thermionic amplifiers and detectors, of the kind employing a four-electrode valve, have the inner or space-charge grid connected through an impedance to a point of positive potential, the impedance being adjusted so as to produce a reaction effect owing to the capacity between the two grids. As shown, the valve 1 has its control grid 4 and its filament 2 connected across a coil in a wireless receiving-aerial 6, the plate circuit including telephones and a battery 8. The spacecharge grid 5 is connected to a tapping 7 on the plate battery through a variable inductance 9 shunted by a variable condenser 10. The inductance 9 may be in the form of a variometer, the self-capacity of which may render a condenser 10 unnecessary. The current in the space-charge grid circuit varies in opposite phase to the plate current as the potential of the control grid varies, and the impedance 9, 10 is adjusted to have a suitable capacity reactance so that the potential variations on the grid 5 induce potentials on the grid 4 substantially in phase with those originally applied to that grid. Specification 149,014 is referred to.
