Abstract
316,659. Northrup, E. F. Aug. 2, 1928, [Convention date]. Induction furnaces.-To permit the use of metal casings in a furnace not employing transformer iron, the induction coil 6 is surrounded by an auxiliary coil 7 conveying a current in the opposite direction so that the external field of the induction coil outside the auxiliary coil is eliminated. The two coils may be arranged in series. The field created by the auxiliary coil may be regulated by shortcircuiting a part of the coil. In a modification, the auxiliary coil is merely coupled inductively to the coil 6 and is short-circuited through a condenser. It may be eccentrically arranged to allow access to the pouring spout, and extends below the coil 6.
