Abstract
323,561. Davis, N. R., and Associated Electrical Industries, Ltd. Oct. 9, 1928. Induction furnaces.-In a furnace wherein the flux set up by the inductor coil links the charge an earthed metallic screen is interposed between the coil and the charge or between the furnace casing and the coil. The screen should not present a continuous circuit embracing the charge and may be of wire netting made from a non- magnetic steel or a cast or pressed metal basket made from iron alloyed with 30 per cent of nickel. In Fig. 1 the screen comprises metal strips 4 and a formula for calculating the dimensions of the strips is given. The lining 6 forming the crucible is sintered with the strips and is removable therewith. In Fig. 2 discontinuous helical rings 9 are bound to the turns 7 of the inductor by insulation 11 and are separated therefrom by insulation 10. One end of each ring is connected to a common vertical strip.
