Induction furnaces.-The primary C is provided with cooling means and comprises a single turn or a small number of turns closely surrounding the charge or working circuit B and fed from an iron cored transformer D, E, F forming one unit with the furnace. No insulation is arranged between the crucible B and the coil C. In Fig. 3 a water circulating gutter is arranged at the top of the coil. In a modification, the coil comprises concentric turns connected in parallel and separated over the main portion of their depth by insulation. In Fig. 4 the coil is provided with fins and is arranged in a casing H through which air is circulated. The primary E of the iron cored transformer is provided with tappings for connection to the current supply and a condenser is arranged across the ends of this coil. The core F may be extended to surround the crucible. The furnace may be adapted for tilting. Specifications 235,921, 291,455, and 291,456 are referred to.
