Abstract

Driving auxiliary parts.-Relates to means for selectively coupling a driving shaft or shafts with two or more driven shafts for use on motor cars in which the motor may also drive a belt pulley, a winch, or a pump as in a motor fire engine. An intermediate shaft 9, Fig. 1, with a clutch end 10 is connected by a universal joint to a cardan shaft 11 driven from the speed gear of a car and is carried in a drum 12 rotatable and axially movable in a casing 4. Rotation is effected by a pinion 16 engaging a toothed ring 17 on the drum and axial movement by a forked lever engaging a collar 13. By such movements, the clutch end 10 may be engaged alternatively with clutch ends 7, 8 on shafts 5, 6 connected respectively to a differential driving the back axle and to a pump. A pin 14 registering with holes 15, 18 in the drum ensures correct engagement of the clutch ends. In the form shown in Fig. 2, two intermediate shafts 24, 25 are connected permanently by universal joints to the cardan driven shafts 28, 29, and alternatively to the driving-shaft 20, which is carried in fixed bearings. A plurality of driving-shafts may be employed. The rotary motion of the drum 12 may be replaced by rectilinear lateral motion, in which case appropriate guides are provided.
