Abstract

Change-speed gearing; driving auxiliary parts and external machines.-A Ford car is provided with additional gearing whereby an auxiliary or external power shaft may be driven, or the propeller shaft can be driven through an extra range of speeds. The additional gear-box h contains the ends of the ordinary gear-shaft b and the propeller shaft c. The shaft c can be driven from the shaft b either direct through the sliding clutch g or through gearing and the lay-shaft l. The auxiliary shaft f carries a sliding gear-wheel e, so that it mav be driven from the shaft b whether the vehicle is being propelled through the shaft c or not. A universal point is provided between the shaft c and the rear axle, or between the ordinary gear-box a and the gear-box h when the latter is carried by the torque tube. In a modification the auxiliary shaft f can only be driven when the propeller shaft c is not driven.
