Abstract

209,914. Royce, r. H., and Rolls- Royce, Ltd. Dec. 5, 1922. Shaft couplings.-A hollow driven shaft c, which may carry a pinion, is connected to a driving-shaft d by an intermediate hollow flexible shaft e connected to cups c<4>, d5, secured to the shafts c, d, by teeth c<5>, d<6> permitting slight axial movement and angularity. The shaft c also connected directly to the shaft d or to the adjacent end of the shaft e, by a Weston clutch f which will transmit about one-eighth of the load, for the purpose of damping out vibration. The shaft c is shown driving a gear-wheel g, and the whole of the gearing is carried in a divided casing provided with supporting-webs. The application of the invention to double helical gearing, as described in Specification 195,665, [Class 80 (i), Gearing, Belt &c.], is specifically excluded.
