572,942. Flexible couplings. AERO ENGINES, Ltd., HALLIDAY, G. F., and THOMAS, A. W. Sept. 28, 1943, No. 15939. [Class 80 (ii)] In a gear-box and clutch unit a cushion drive between a gear 21 and a driven clutch plate 13 comprises a torsion bar 35 rigidly fixed at 36 to the clutch hub 17 and fixed at its other end 37 to a tubular sleeve 38. The latter is fixed at 39 to the sleeve 10 of the gear 21, the sleeve 10 having dogs 20 engaging with circumferential freedom recesses in the flange 18 of the clutch hub 17. As shown, the sleeve 38 is enclosed by a driven shaft 22 carrying gears 26, 28, the gears 21, 26, 28 co-operating with gears 30, 31, 32 on a countershaft (not shown). In a more compact modification the tubular sleeve 38 is made toisionally flexible such as by being split longitudinally.
