Abstract

562,974. Clutches; power take-off devices. HARPER, Ltd., M.O., and HARPER, G. M. Jan. 12, 1943, No. 598. [Class 80 (ii)] [Also in Groups XXXI and XXXIV] A power take-off device comprises a driving shaft 1, a co-axial normally driven shaft 2 and a subsidiary driven member 7 surrounding the shaft 1 and mounted by bearings .6 on a fixed frame 5. A clutch member 11 splined to the shaft 1 has dogs 12, 13, engageable with dogs 10, 14, fixed to the member 7 and shaft 2, when the clutch member 11 is one or other of its end positions. In the intermediate position shown, all the dogs are disengaged. The clutch member 11 is moved by a fork 15 actuated by a member 19 through a sliding rod 16. The member 7 contains lubricant and this is circulated to the various bearings by means of vanes 20 fixed to the frame 5. The shaft 2 may be connected to the driven shaft of an automobile and the driven member 7 may be a pulley drivably connected to a dynamo armature shaft.
