Vacuum tubes; low - pressure metallic-vapour apparatus.-In discharge tubes operated at a high temperature for the emission of positivecolumn light and having a wall comprising a part 1 of transparent material of high melting point which is sealed to one or more enlarged parts 2, 3 consisting of a material of comparatively low melting point, the seal is situated in the enlarged part of the tube wall, as at 10. In the case of a graded seal 11 at least one of the seals is situated in the enlarged part. The part 1 may be of quartz for the emission of ultraviolet radiation. Specification 307,982 is referred to.
