C. ; 15, Monroe Avenue, both in East Orange, New Jersey, U.S.A.) Nov. 10, 1931, No. 31131. Convention date, Nov. 21, 1930. Addition to 374,466. [Class 39 (i).] The glow-discharge lamps of the parent Specification are provided with a filling of mercury vapour at a pressure less than À08 mm. and preferably greater than À001 mm, such pressures corresponding to temperatures between 20 and 75‹ C., and being sufficient to support the discharge but insufficient to cause absorption of the ultra-violet radiation. In a lamp with considerable energy input, the mercury 12 is collected in a projection 17 with a restricted opening 18 but in lamps with smaller input, the mercury may be in the main bulb. The rays may be emitted through a thin, inwardly-projecting, bulbous window homogeneously united to a bulb not transparent to ultra-violet rays.
