468,805. Discharge lamps; photoelectric signalling &c. apparatus.' GENERAL ELECTRIC CO., Ltd. (Patent-Treuhand-Ges. fur Elektrische Gl³hlampen) March 24, 1936, No. 8764. [Classes 39 (i) and 40 (iii)] A discharge device acting as a source of near infra-red radiation has a filling of rare gas, and caesium vapour at pressures corresponding to temperatures between 80 and 140‹ C., i.e. between À00016 and À0071 mms. The rare gas may be neon at 5-15 mms. If the heat developed in the discharge is not sufficient to maintain the temperature in the range specified, external heating means may be employed. The small amount of visible radiation may be removed by a filter of infra-red transmitting glass, such as Schott R.G.7, which may form the envelope. The visible radiation is transformed into heat which may assist in maintaining the temperature of the discharge. The device may be utilized for television or secret signalling in conjunction with the caesium silver oxide type of photo-cell specially sensitive to near infra-red radiation. Specification 400,756 is referred to. The Provisional Specification refers to a temperature range of 100-125‹ C. Reference, has been directed by the Comptroller to Specification 400,756.
