Abstract
261,003. Brettmon, J. Nov. 3, 1925, [Convention date]. Vacuum tubes; low-pressure metallic-vapour apparatus.-A salt or substance containing radium is placed in a highly-evacuated discharge lamp and gives off emanations which are comverted into a gas. The radium salt may be in the form of crystals or in solution. As shown, a porous pot c containing radium is placed in a tube which is evacuated until a pressure of 20,000 volts fails to produce a discharge. After a few hours the emanations from radium are sufficient to enable a discharge to be produced with 10,000 volts. In a modification, a metailic salt such as sodium chloride is inserted in the lamp and may be incorporated with the radium-containing substance. The Specification, as open to inspection under Sect. 91 (3) (a), comprises also a lamp with a billing of nitrogen which is ionized by radium contained in a platinum tube, or the lamp may have an auxiliary electrode containing sodium or a sodium salt emitting vapour, the radium salt being placed in that electrode or in a porous pot. This subject-matter does not appear in the Speeification as accepted.
