Abstract

312,333. Naamlooze Vennootschap Philips' Gloeilampenfabrieken. May 26, 1928, [Convention date]. Searchlights; vehicle and like lamps; electric lamp casings. - A lamp especially adapted for aircraft, comprises an incandescent lamp with a concentrated filament 14 and a condensing bulb 15, the lamp extending through a lateral aperture into a rejector 10 so that the filament is at the focus and the bulb part 15 outside the reflector. The axis of the lamp being inclined to that of the reflector, the rejector can be dipped or raised through a fairly wide angle without sacrificing the cooling effect of the bulb 15. For use on aircraft the surrounding casing 19 is streamlined and the reflector is secured to it by a gimbal-ring construction 19. The lamp is carried from the reflector by a holder 16 and brackets 17, and the casing is mounted by bolts 20 and rubber pads 21. By housing the bulb 15 and other protruding parts within the structure of the aeroplane a shallow casing can be used, Fig. 2.
