Abstract
858,052. Lamp reflectors. CENTRE NATIONAL DE LA RECHERCHE SCIENTIFIQUE. Dec. 7, 1956 [Dec. 9, 1955], No. 37520/56. Classes 75(2) and 75(4). Radiation approaching that of a blockbody is obtained from a polished light-emitting surface in a predetermined direction by reflecting emitted light back on to the surface where it is re-reflected in the predetermined direction. In Fig. 4, the filament 7 is located at the centre of a spherical mirror 8 formed in two parts 9, 10 of metal or silvered silica. Flanged portions 13, 14 are connected together, e.g. by screws, and fins 16 and cooling which is also achieved by air flow through openings 11, 12. The lamp socket is adjustable for centring. The bulb portion 6 may be part only of a larger envelope, Fig. 5 (not shown). The spherical reflectors may be in two sets of different radii and the source a bunched filament, Fig. 6 (not shown), and in Fig. 8 (not shown) an opaline bulb is placed with the part opposite the cap centred on the reflector. Alternatively a lamp with a nernst filament with its axis on the centre of the reflecting sphere may be used. Fig. 7 shows an arrangement in which a lens 21 and plane mirror 2<SP>111</SP> replace the spherical reflector, and a plane sheet of coloured glass 2<SP>11</SP> may be interposed to modify the colour of the emerging beam. Light from an auxiliary mono-chromatic lamp may be directed on to the polished emitting surface to provide reference spectrum lines.
