Abstract
532,914. Incandescent electric lamps. BRITISH THOMSON-HOUSTON CO., Ltd. Sept. 26, 1939, No. 26639. Convention date, Sept. 27, 1938, [Classes 39 (ii) and 75 (iv)] A lamp for concentrating to a focus a strong beam of infra-red radiation for therapeutic purposes comprises a bulb or enclosure in two glass parts sealed together as described in Specification 515,091 the lower part being of ellipsoidal form with an internal reflecting coating 16 and the upper part mainly of spherical form with the focus F of the ellipse as its centre. The tungsten filament 13 is arranged substantially at the focus F and the radiation is brought to a focus at the external focus F<SP>1</SP> of the ellipse through the plane portion 19, divergent radiation being reflected back on to the surface 16 by the spherical reflecting surfaces 18. In a modification, a lamp bulb is mounted in an enclosure shaped as described above.
