Abstract
505,897. Street &c. lamps. BRITISH THOMSON-HOUSTON CO., Ltd., MAXTED, R., and BERTRAM, J. Oct. 18, 1937, No. 28346. [Classes 75 (ii) and 75 (iv)] A street or like lamp comprises curved reflectors 4 arranged above the light source 2, one on each side of a vertical plane passing therethrough and each shaped to direct light downwardly on to a narrow band 6 on a plane reflector 5 on the same side of the vertical plane, the reflectors 5 being disposed in planes passing through the source 2 so as to redirect the light in the required directions and additional side reflectors 3 being provided to reflect the lateral rays from the source 2 through the space between the latter and the upper edges of the reflectors 5. In a modification, each reflector 4 is formed with a portion shaped to direct a part of the light downwardly through the space between the reflectors 3 and 5 on its own side of the vertical plane through the source. The linear source 2 and trough-shaped reflectors 3, 4 shown on Figs. 2, 3 may be replaced by a point source and reflectors arranged concentrically around the vertical axis of the source, an infinite number of reflectors 5 being, in this case, disposed in a circle to form a single band having the form of a truncated cone. Plane refractors may be used instead of the reflectors 5.
