Abstract
627,310. Searchlights. NAAMLOOZE VENNOOTSCHAP PHILIPS' GLOEILAMPENFABRIEKEN. Sept. 6, 1946, No. 26849. Convention date, March 13, 1943. [Class 75(ii)] [Also in Group XX] A searchlight comprises two parabolic cylindrical reflectors whose focal lengths are in the ratio of at least 5 : 1 and whose generators are orthogonal and a linear light source disposed along the focal line of the reflector having the smaller focal length. 'As shown, the source 3, which may be a mercury vapour discharge lamp, is disposed along the focal line of the reflector 1 of focal length f<SP>1</SP> from which light is reflected onto the reflector 2 having a focal length f 2 such that f 2 / f 1 is at least 5. This reflector is shielded from direct light from the source 3 by a screen 11. Between source 3 and reflector 1 is disposed a screen having the form of a truncated cone with its upper edge 6 lying in the plane passing through the focal line and apex generator of reflector 2. The upper edge 6 is of radius r and the reflectors are spaced apart a distance f 2 minus f 1 plus r.
