Abstract
306,357. White, J., and Mitchell, C. T. July 12, 1928. Variable-speed gearing of the kind with aligned driving and driven shafts a, c, Fig. 1, and a parallel countershaft d comprises a coupling K arranged between the countershaft d and the gear e which drives it. This coupling K allows free lost motion and its object is to facilitate changing-down when, say, a vehicle is climbing a hill. The coupling comprises parallel sided dogs g', Fig. 4, adapted to move round between segment-shafted dogs g<1>, Fig. 3.
