Abstract

Firebars.-Firebars a arranged parallel to the flow of gases have the upper and lower surfaces of their heads so inclined that the streams of air emerging from between the bars impinge upon the gases evolved from the fuel at a series of points above the fuel bed from opposite directions and transversely to the general direction of flow of the gases. In the form shown in Fig. 1, the inclinations are opposed on opposite sides of the centre line. The bars are provided with transverse webs w. These webs may unite several bars and serve to divide the streams of air. The webs extend downwards from just below the heads of the bars to the bottom of the longitudinal web of the bars or below them. The bars may be used for stationary or for travelling grates.
