Abstract

Firebars and grates.- A grate construction adapted to be applied to or supported by an existing grate comprises notched bearer bars 1, Fig. 3, which are cut to the desired length and laid in parallel relation upon an existing grate, a central fire-bar 4, Fig. 2, arranged in the central notches 3 of the bearer bars and fire-bars 8, Fig. 1, arranged in the remaining notches of the bearers on each side of the bar 4. As shown in Figs. 1 and 5, the bars 8 are provided with lips 10 and shoulders 11<1>, the lip of one bar being adapted to rest on the shoulder of an adjacent bar. Lugs 11 beneath the lips provide air passages 12 between the bars. The lips of the bars on one side of the central bar are directed oppositely to the lips of the bars on the other side.
