Types and spaces.-To prevent the quads and spaces in a chase from rising and contacting with the inking-rollers and paper, they are provided with projections on one side ond correspondingly shaped recesses on the opposite side and the types are provided with recesses on both sides The quads and spaces thus interlock with each other or with the adjacent type. The narrowest spaces may be formed with projections and with vertical grooves on one or both sides to allow them to be readily inserted where necessary to tighten up a line.
