Abstract

305,964. Johnston, J. T. M. Nov. 11, 1927. Vinch-actuated lever load-handling apparatus. -Apparatus for lifting barrels &c. on to a tank &c., shown as applied to a tar-boiler 5, is of the type comprising guides 1 extending horizontally across the tank, a cradle 8, 9 for the barrel, and a winch 3 for hauling upon the cradle so as to turn it about a fulcrum at the end of the guides and draw it over the tank. Rollers 11 are provided on the cradle to permit rotation of the barrel when over the tank. As shown, the fulcrum is formed by a pair of rollers 2 mounted on the angle-iron guides 1, and hooks 12 on the cradle engage a spindle 13 during tipping. When the cradle is horizontal, it is drawn by the winch over rollers 22, the angles 1 serving as guides. The barrel may be strapped or clipped upon the cradle. The drum of the winch may be tapered to obtain greater power at the first part of the operation.
