Abstract
1,128,259. Fairleads; winches. SAMUEL HODGE & SONS Ltd. 20 July, 1967 [22 July, 1966], No. 33138/66. Heading B8B. [Also in Division A4] An apparatus for handling a tank washing equipment supply hose 15, comprises an arcuate sectioned support 1 extending upwardly from an open centred base ring 3, a pulley 14 at the top of the support 1 over which the hose 15 passes prior to depending into the tank through a manhole beneath the ring 3, and a winch drum 16 coaxially mounted in driving connection with the pulley 14. The latter is laterally offset from the vertical centre line of the ring 3 so that the hose 15 extends along said centre line. The hose is vertically moved within the tank by a cable 35 secured to the hose and passing to the winch drum 16, and by rotation of the pulley 14 with the winch drum when a reversible pneumatic motor 19 is operated. The hose is held against the pulley 14 by a releasable bearing roller 33. A cleat 7 on the support 1 facilitates securing of the cable 35 during washing at any one level in the tank, while wheels 8 facilitate mobility of the apparatus when the base ring 3 has been unbolted from the tank manhole securing studs 5. A separate framework, Fig. 4 (not shown), may be releasably secured to the support, to provide a pulley at the vertical centreline of the base ring, whereby other equipment may be moved into and out of the tank. In the embodiment of Fig. 3 (not shown), the winch drive motor is replaced by a handle for manual operation.
