A lifting platform 17 is detachably carried by a frame 14 connected by pairs of parallel links 15, 16 to a similar frame 13 which can be detachably secured, for example to a vehicle. As illustrated, hooks 13b on the frame 13 take over a frame 12 comprising members 12a which are secured within tubes 11 mounted by brackets 10 on a longitudinal b at the rear of a vehicle body. The platform may be raised by a hydraulic jack connected between a member 31 joining the links 15 and members detachably secured below the frame 12 and the jack may be fed with liquid under pressure from a handoperated pump carried by the frame 12 or by a pump driven by the vehicle engine. Alternatively and as illustrated, the platform may be raised by a handle 20 secured to a bolt 21 carried by the links 15 and bearing against a member 15b joining the links 15. The handle 20 carries a spring-biased detent 23 which can be withdrawn from holes 24a in a sector 24 by a handle 25: the detent 23 and sector 24 may be replaced by a pawl and ratchet. A further handle carried by the handle 20 in position for use when the handle 20 is inconveniently high may fold against the handle 20. The handle 20 may be replaced by a short lever operated by a cable wound on a manually operated winch. The platform 17 comprises angle irons formed with hooks 17 to take over the uprights of the frame 14 and carries a wooden platform 18 and wooden cross pieces 19.
