Abstract

Piston-packing substitutes.-To prevent leakage at the joints between the members of a pneumatic jack, one or more stretchable liners made of elastic material are fitted to the cylinder and rams. The base c carries the cylinder a and the crutch d is mounted on a tubular ram b. A stretchable liner g of indiarubber &c. is secured by a ring h to the lower end of the cylinder and by a ring i to the upper end of the ram so as to seal the joints between them. A pump connection k and safety valve m are fitted to the base. A telescopic jack having two rams may be similarly fitted with a liner. A jack having three rams is fitted with two liners.
