686,018. Pit props. GEWERKSCHAFT EISENHUTTE WESTFALIA. March 31, 1950 [April 7, 1949], No. 8195/50. Class 20(ii) [Also in Group XXX] A hydraulic pit prop comprises a cylinder 10 and a piston 15 formed as a tube open at its upper end to receive a tubular inner prop member 22 carried by a collar 26 near the upper end of a member 24 interposed between the inner prop member 22 and the base 16 of the piston 15. The member 24 may be inverted to vary the effective length of the prop. A ball-jointed cap 23 and foot 12 are provided, the latter being held by clips 14. The upper end of the piston 15 may be hardened and chromium plated. Water under pressure is introduced into the cylinder 10 via a non-return valve 19 and a safety valve 20 is provided.
